HALO Air Ambulance temporarily suspended after incident

Sep 16, 2025 | 12:47 PM

Emergency Health Services Alberta (EHS-Alberta) has temporarily suspended the use of HALO Air Ambulance while a review is undertaken after a recent safety incident.

A statement from EHS-Alberta said they are conducting a full review and strengthening safety processes.

Patient care will continue uninterrupted, with STARS providing service in the Medicine Hat area.

In a statement HALO said the suspension was following a recent operational matter during a patient transfer.

HALO CEO Paul Carolan said while EHS-Alberta is addressing safety concerns, they want to be clear that no patients, medical staff, or crew were injured during this event.

“HALO remains fully committed to working with EHS-Alberta to address the concerns identified and ensure all expectations are met,” Carolan said.

“A corrective action plan is being finalized and will be submit to EHS-Alberta ahead of their deadline,” he added.

“All parties remain supportive of the next steps to ensure services can be safely resumed.”

Carolan said the organization is proud to serve rural and remote communities across southern Alberta.

“Guided by our values, a strong sense of duty, and a commitment to those we serve, HALO has always placed the highest priority on patient care and operational excellence,” Carolan said.
