Sep 15, 2025 | 1:33 PM

The city council meeting in Medicine Hat Monday night will have a busy agenda.

COUNCILLOR PAY

The pay for councillors next term is expected to be determined, as they could see a raise from $52,977 to $60,236. While the mayor’s pay looks to stay at $159,176.

URBAN HENS

There will be a delegation from an individual on the potential for urban hens in the city early in the meeting.

FUTURE CAMPGROUND

A public hearing will then take place on the rezoning of land for a potential development of a campground by a developer in the city. The location is 620 Porcelain Ave S.E., which is east of Medalta and Strathcona Island Park.

MUNICIPAL INSPECTION

Council will then be tasked with considering 53 governance recommendations, and 15 administrative, financial, and operational recommendations that were outlined in the municipal inspection report. With the recommendation from staff for council to provide direction on implementation.

PERFORMANCE REVIEW

The city manger’s performance review previously discussed during a closed session of council is set to be approved, but details aren’t expected during open council.

BACKYARD SUITES

A bylaw amendment will be discussed, which would allow a five year tax exemption for new builds of backyard residential suites.

HOUSING DEVELOPMENT AND LAND SALE

The sale of land in the Ranchlands area to developer Span West Building Corporation out of Saskatoon, Sask. at a reduced price of $655,000 will be discussed.

The current list price for the land of $890,500 was established in 2016.

Span West is looking to develop two four-storey buildings, with each containing 24 residential units, along with parking to accomodate residents.

They had previously looked to develop at 1064 1st Street SW, but had faced opposition from residents in the area over the height of the build and its impact on nearby homes.
