Lethbridge youth charged with attempted murder of younger sibling

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is continuing to investigate an attempted murder involving two youths.

Just after 4:30 p.m. on August 27, 2025, officers were called to a home on the north side on reports that a seven-year-old boy had been stabbed.

The 911 call was made by the victim’s father. LPS says the boy was in serious medical distress and was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital before being airlifted to the Edmonton Children’s Hospital.

The victim’s 12-year-old brother allegedly told police that an unknown man entered the home and stabbed his sibling before fleeing.

However, LPS says it later learned that the 12-year-old had allegedly stabbed his brother repeatedly, and believing that he had killed the seven-year-old, lied about an intruder entering the home.

The 12-year-old boy, who cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault. He is in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.

Child and Family Services have been contacted, and family members connected with the Victim/Witness Services Unit for additional support.

The seven-year-old victim remains in hospital in stable condition.
