Tigers make selections in WHL U.S. Priority Draft and Prospects Draft

The 2025 Western Hockey League U.S. Priority Draft began Thursday morning drafting for the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The selected a pair of 2010 born American players.

With pick number 16 of the first round the Tigers drafted defenseman Jake Burmis from Rogers, MN.

Burmis played 63 games with the Rogers Bantam AA team putting up 27 goals, 55 assists and 82 points.

He also had 18 penalty minutes to go with a +54 plus/minus rating.

Burmis also played for the Minnesota Green Giants in the Minnesota High Performance 14U league with eight points in 13 games including five goals and three assists in the regular season.

During the playoffs with the Green Giants, Burmis had nine points in six games with three goals and six assists.

Burmis who shoots left, stands 5-foot-9 and weighs 150 pounds.

In the second round with pick number 32 the Tigers selected right winger Bauer Sullivan from Rosemount, MN.

Sullivan also played in the Minnesota High Performance 14U league putting up 25 points in 20 games with 10 goals and 15 assists and 32 penalty minutes.

A right shot, he stands 5-foot-7 and weighs 155 pounds.

The WHL Prospects Draft which had it’s first round on Wednesday resumed with the second round.

The Tigers with pick 36 of the second round selected defenseman Luke Warrener of East Amherst, NY.

Warrener is the son of former NHL player Rhett Warrener, who grew up in Frontier, Sask and now resides back in Calgary with his family.

The 2009 born player, skated with the South Alberta Hockey Academy U18 Prep team team during the 2024-25 season putting up 15 points with six goals and nine assists in 32 games with 72 penalty minutes.

Warrener a right shot, stand 6-foot-3 and weighs 190 pounds.

The Tigers shored up their future blueline depth even more with pick 67 of the third round selecting defenseman Hunter Saddleback who played for the St. Albert U15 AAA Sabres in the Alberta Elite Hockey League.

The 2010 born player from St. Albert was in his second season with the Sabres.

He put up 37 points in 29 games with nine goals, 28 assists and only 2 penalty minutes.

The right shot defender is 5 foot 11 and weighs 142 pounds.

The Tigers next pick was goaltender Ben Meyer from the Notre Dame Hounds U15 Prep team, taken with pick 78 in round four.

The 5-foot-10, 160 pound netminder from Regina, Sask. had a .891 save percentage and a 4.73 goals against average with the Hounds.

He also played a game in net for the Notre Dame Hounds U18 AAA team where he let in seven goal with an .883 save percentage.

The Tigers had a pair of picks in round five taking Michael Kuzik, a 5-foot-7, 129 pound forward from Langley, B.C. with pick 109, and left winger Duke Lesnar of Alexandria, Minn. standing just under 6 feet and weighing 167 pounds.

Lesnar is the son of Brock Lesnar of WWE and UFC fame.

The Tigers went to Shattuck-St. Mary’s 14U team for pick 137 of round six, taking right winger Adam Benassaya of Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Benassaya stand 5-foot-11 and weights 155 pounds.

With a pair of picks in round seven, the Tigers selected a Trae Alexander with pick 143.

Alexander from Fort St. John, B.C. is 5-foot-3 and weighs 115 pounds.

Pick 160 was left winger Eric Savage Keller, a 5-foot-6, 145 pound skater for the Calgary Royals U15 AAA team.

With two picks again in round eight the Tigers selected right winger Casey Pearson of Squamish, B.C. with pick 163 and left winger Vlad Ibragimov originally from Moscow, Russia but a member of the North Shore Warriors U18 Prep team this passed season.

Jack Frisky a 5-foot-5, 142 pound left winger out of Saskatoon, Sask. was the Tigers final pick of the draft in round nine, selected at 190th overall.
