Medicine Hat showing strong support for Tigers

Apr 30, 2025 | 12:21 PM

Travelling throughout Medicine Hat, there are many signs of support being shown for the Medicine Hat Tigers as the teams continues one of the most successful playoff runs in a number of years.

Co-op Place has been filled with fans, and even the City of Medicine Hat has got behind the team with a Tigers flag at city hall, and a special message in support of the team on city buses.

Mayor Linnsie Clark has noticed the excitement around the Tigers.

“Well everyone in Medicine Hat is so excited that our Tigers made it to the third round and are playing so well,” Clark said.

“We have a lot of home team support in Medicine Hat and we just wanted to be part of that as well.”

Many local businesses have thrown their support behind the team.

In the Brier Park area of the city, Kruse Glass & Aluminum has, “Go Tigers Go” proudly displayed on the advertising board in front of their shop.

In charge of sales and marketing, Lawrence Hiebert said the decision to show support was easy.

“”Well it’s the perfect time, the community really gets behind the team, and we are as local as it can possibly be,” Hiebert said.

“No better way to stand behind the people you work with and that you shop with and you do everything with, so root for your local team, and that’s just all part of what we do.”

The games are being viewed at a number of locations throughout the city.

A food donation to the Root Cellar when entering the historic Monarch Theatre gives fans the opportunity to view the game in a unique space with fellow Tigers fans.

During game three on Tuesday, the fans even stood and sang the national anthem to kick off the game.

Tigers fans Jill Reid and Gary Lines were both exited for the atmosphere.

“It’s perfect. It’s an absolutely perfect place for it,” Reid said.

“It just brings back really good memories of the earlier times that we had in the theater, and I’m pretty new to the Hat. The Monarch is an amazing building. Yeah, great space.”

“Just a great idea for team spirit and for the city, and this beautiful old theater. Couldn’t pick a better spot to watch the Tigers tonight, for sure,” said Lines.

“I watched the very first game that the Tigers ever played in the old barn. To follow them through the years, it’s a great franchise. This team this year is one of the best we’ve ever had. There’s no two ways about it.”

City Manager Ann Mitchell said it’s heartwarming to see our community rallying behind our hometown Medicine Hat Tigers during this exciting playoff run.

“The energy, pride, and support from fans across Medicine Hat truly showcase the spirit that makes our city so special,” Mitchell said.

“We are proud to care for Co-op Place, the home of the Tigers, so they have a safe and exciting atmosphere in which to play, but we plan to kick them out for a week or two at the end of May,” she added.

“I hear the Sun Life Financial Coliseum in Rimouski, Quebec is a pretty cool rink they could try. Go Tigers Go!”

Mayor Clark said the team has been playing amazing hockey.

“They’ve made the highlight reel so many times already during this this playoff season, so just really excited and proud of them and and wish them all the best and go Tigers go.”

The Tigers are back in action Wednesday in Lethbridge, looking to sweep the Hurricanes.

The Monarch is sure to get another strong crowd of supporters, with many others travelling down Highway 3 to support their team at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

Game time is at 7 p.m., Will Bryant and Lance Doll will have the radio broadcast for you on Wild 94.5 starting with the pre-game broadcast at 6:30 p.m.
