YEAR IN REVIEW 2024

The best of Travelling with Dan, chosen by its host

Dec 28, 2024 | 7:00 AM

I travelled non-stop in 2024 and loved every second of it.

I drove all around Alberta and across much of the United States — we ran over 40 Travelling With Dan feature episodes.

When I was asked to list my top five favourite destinations, it was difficult. Very difficult.

So I agreed if I could have two lists: Destinations Inside Alberta and Destinations Outside Alberta.

I also agree if I could do a list of six for Alberta. I just couldn’t narrow it down any further. And they aren’t in any order.

This is from when I went to find some dinosaurs. Dan Reynish/CHAT News

And here they are, although if you ask me to list them again tomorrow, they might change.

Thank you very much for travelling with me!! See you on the road again in 2025!!

All across Alberta, the United States and even Ireland!!

Inside Alberta

1. Bob and Doug McKenzie statue

This landmark statue in Edmonton celebrate the Second City Television stars Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas, who played characters Bob and Doug McKenzie.

2. Wolverine at Cold Lake

The wooden statue of Wolverine was placed in front of the Cold Lake Museums in November 2021. I went there armed with my Wolverine pose.

The fictional Marvel Comics character James Howlett was born in Cold Lake, Alta. He’s played by Hugh Jackman in the Marvel movies.

I visited Alberta’s Dinosaur Provincial Park, a world UNESCO heritage site located just over an hour from Medicine Hat.

There I found some large creatures from a prehistoric past.

4. Gopher Hole Museum

I went to the World Famous Gopher Hole Museum.

The museum, located in Torrington, Alta., features 77 stuffed gophers posed to resemble townspeople and 44 intricately designed dioramas.

This first aired on July 22.

5. White Buffalo

In this episode, I visit Sisika First Nation’s White Buffalo Trading Post, about two hours northwest of Medicine Hat.

Join me as I encounter something rare: white bison.

Bonus: Avro Arrow

I explored the history of the controversial Avro Arrow and a replica under construction in a Calgary hanger at Springbank Airport.

This first aired on Nov. 27, 2023.

Outside Alberta

1. Bonneville Salt Flats

This first aired on Nov. 4.

2. Neil Armstrong museum

I visited the Armstrong Air and Space Museum, named after famed astronaut Neil Armstrong and located in his hometown of Wapakoneta, Ohio.

It also stands as a repository of Ohio’s aeronautical history and a monument to the state’s contribution to aviation and space exploration.

It first aired on June 24.

3. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

I visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.

This first aired on July 8.
