Emergency services swarmed to the scene of a call in the Meadowlands neighbourhood of Medicine Hat on Friday evening.

The Medicine Hat Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision fatality shortly after 7 p.m., according to a call for services record.

Police initially closed a section of Southview Drive Southeast between Southview Court Southeast and Dunmore Road Southeast, but later reopened the road to regular traffic, according to a statement.

Nearly a dozen vehicles — including two fire trucks, at least six police units and an ambulance — were at the scene of a blocked-off stretch of Southview Drive Southeast.

A witness told CHAT News he saw people performing first aid on a senior person lying on the road.

The witness, Brent Wood, said first responders arrived shortly after 7 p.m.

One other witness said a pedestrian was hit.

Police did not reveal any further details Friday, only saying there was no threat to public safety.

Staff Sgt. Trevor Humphries said there would be “no further release on this incident” in a statement.
