Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat: Dec. 12-14

It’s the second weekend of December and snow is in the forecast, according to Environment Canada.

Friday periods of snow are expected with about 5 cm. Wind gusting to 40 km/r in the afternoon. A high of -16 C, and wind chill near -28 with a risk of frostbite. In the evening periods of snow ending before Saturday morning then cloudy, with 5 to 10 cm of snow expected. Winds gusting to 40 km/h then becoming light. A low of -20 C, and wind chill near -27.

On Saturday, a mix of sun and cloud. Winds gusting to 40 km/h in the afternoon. A high of -7 C, and wind chill of -25 C in the morning, and -17 C in the afternoon. In the evening, clear and a low of -4 C.

Sunday is expected to see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 8 C. Clear in the evening with a low of 0 C.

🐅 Medicine Hat Tigers home games

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers host a pair of home games against Saskatchewan opponents this weekend at Co-op Place.

On a seven-game winning streak, the Tigers host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday and the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday.

Puck drop for both games is at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available on tixx.ca.

Will Bryant and Lance Doll will have the call on the radio broadcasts on Wild 94.5 starting at 6:30 p.m. for both games.

🎙 Comedian Scott Belford at Elements

FRIDAY

Calgary-based comedian Scott Belford will be at Elements Restaurant & Bar in the Copper Coulee Casino on Friday at 8 p.m. to perform at Comedy Night.

Belford is a 17-year veteran of the Canadian comedy circuit with relatable humour and storytelling.

There is a $10 cover charge.

🎅 Santa’s Village

SATURDAY

Santa’s Village is at Little Owl Learning Centre at 101 Sixth St. SE on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

A festive morning of hands-on play, art invitations, making reindeer food, feeding the “reindeer” goats from Leisure Way Mini Farm, hot cocoa, live Christmas music with Rob Hudec, and a visit from Santa.

Buddy the Elf has also been known to show up wherever Christmas magic is happening.

Take your own photo with Santa for free, or get a $5 Polaroid keepsake.

Choose from two sessions: 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Sessions are capped, so booking ahead is encouraged.

Admission is $10 per grown-up, and kids are free.

The event is recommended for ages 8 and under.

There will be two ways to give to the Santa Claus Fund at the event:

• Bring an unwrapped gift, and your child can make a Christmas keepsake to take home.

• Enter their Holly Jolly Toonie Raffle.

🌲 Christmas Pet Pictures with The Grinch

SATURDAY

The Grinch is coming to All Dogs Great & Small, located at 1887 Sixth Ave. SW on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Get your pup’s picture taken with the Grinch.

They are asking for a minimum $20 donation or a bag of dog food per animal, with all donations going to the Medicine Hat SPCA.

🎄 Wrappin’ it up for Christmas Market

SATURDAY

Jenesis Junction Salon & Spa and the Irvine & District New Horizons Club are hosting the Wrappin’ it up for Christmas Market at 93 S Railway Ave. in Irvine on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there for photo ops from noon to 2 p.m.

The event will be filled with vendors.

♟️ Ticket to Ride Tournament

SUNDAY

In partnership with Steven Durk, the Medicine Hat Board Game Guy, Station Coffee Co., and the Redcliff Pharmasave, the Medicine Hat Public Library is pleased to host another Ticket to Ride Tournament.

It runs Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

Do you think you’re a skilled enough conductor to take home the trophy and grand prize?

Participants must be 12 or older.

🐦 Christmas Bird Count for Kids

SUNDAY

Join the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program for a guided, family-friendly nature walk looking for local birds.

Budding bird enthusiasts can participate in the fun with the Christmas Bird Count for Kids.

You will learn how to use binoculars and share tips to identify common birds exploring Police Point Park.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars, if possible.

All other supplies will be provided.

Registration is required for this free program.

Dress for the weather and meet out front of the Nature Centre at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

🎶 A Symphonic Christmas

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Concert Band is performing A Symphonic Christmas at the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The annual show includes the Medicine Hat Community Orchestra as special guests.

You’ll hear some holiday favourites and new twists on classic songs.
