Alberta government decries reduction of jobs funding, Ottawa says not a ‘cut’
There will be less money flowing to Alberta to support jobs this year.
The province’s jobs minister Matt Jones is calling out what he says is the federal government’s “unexpected and unreasonable decision” to cut $70.8 million in Labour Market Transfer Agreement funding for Alberta.
As a result, the Alberta government is putting the Canada-Alberta Job Grant on hold for the remainder of the 2024-25 fiscal year.
The agreement supports workforce development programs that help Albertans to get the training they need in order to find and keep good jobs. It also provided small and medium-sized businesses with approximately 80 per cent of the cost of helping current employees to gain job-related skills.
