Indications continue to point to lower water allocation in SMRID

The St. Mary’s River Irrigation District says it continues on a path that indicates a below average water allocation for the summer irrigation season.
Reservoirs at the headworks are up slightly since last month, and the snowpack has increased since February, but it’s still below average.
S.M.R.I.D is now drafting revisions of water sharing Memorandums of Understanding between parties within the Southern Tributaries sub-basin.
The board is forecasting a preliminary water allocation of 8 inches at the farm gate to start the 2024 irrigation season, but that’s subject to change and will be finalized at the Annual General Meeting on April 3 in Lethbridge.
