MEDICINE HAT, AB – Why pay a ticket when you can give a toy?

Alberta Health Services is back with its Toys for Tickets campaign that allows those who have recently received an AHS parking ticket to donate a new, unwrapped toy rather than paying a fine.

Those who receive a ticket between Dec. 6 and Dec. 15 will be able to participate by bringing in toys to any AHS parking office in lieu of paying off a ticket.

Toys should be in the original packaging and be appropriate for any of the age up to 17 years old. The value of each toy must be at least $25, organizers said.

AHS will donate the toys collected to various children’s foundations and charity organizations to be given to children throughout Alberta.

AHS parking director Nick Ternovatsky said hundreds of toys were donated last time around.

“Last year was a huge success as we collected more than 470 toys province wide,” Ternovatsky said in a news release.

“Given its past success and positive reception, we are happy to launch it once again this holiday season.”

Recommended donations include books, art supplies, science kits, electronics, headphones, Lego sets, portable DVD players, rattles, baby toys, journals, activity books, crayons, colouring books, and gift cards for grocery stores and restaurants.
