Tigers double up Rebels for third straight win
Red Deer, AB – Despite trailing early in the first period the Medicine Hat Tigers persevered for their third straight win to start the season after a 4-2 victory at the Peavey Mart Centrium Friday night against the Red Deer Rebels.
The first period started off on the wrong foot for the Tigers as they gave up the first eight shots and Hunter Mayo would get the Rebels on the board first at 3:21 on a errant shot that fooled Tigers starter Evan May (Nanaimo, BC).
But right after the goal from Rebels, Medicine Hat would finally register shots towards Red Deer starter Kyle Kelsey and would be rewarded as Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) would bang home his third goal in as many games from Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) to tied things up at 1-1 at 7:06. Five minutes and 29 seconds later the Tigers would continue their push back and take the lead as Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) would eventually be the last man to chip away his first of the season from Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) & Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT). The Tigers would experience a late Rebels power play but were able to kill it off and help the road side maintain their lead going into the 1st intermission.
The second period would see ample chances for the Tigers to add into their lead, including a pair of power plays but couldn’t solve Kyle Kelsey until late in the frame with a little luck and a bounce as Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) would bank his second in as many games at 14:08 to give the Tigers a two-goal advantage. Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Josh Van Mulligen (Medicine Hat, AB) would benefit with assists.
