Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter announces capital campaign
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society has launched their capital campaign at their annual general meeting. The campaign is called “It’s all about basic human needs.”
This $6-million initiative will help the shelter complete renovations and expansions on the 25-year-old building. It would include adding private bathrooms to each bedroom and updating the building to code with a fire-suppression system. An updated day-care is also on the list. While these renovations take place, the shelter may need help from community partners to ensure housing services are not disrupted. They are also seeking donations from the community.
Natasha Carvalho, the women’s shelter’s executive director, says that many shelter residents have injuries or children and for them accessibility is top-of-mind.
