Premier says report on quitting Canada Pension Plan will be out in fall

Jul 24, 2023 | 11:37 AM

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her government will release a long-promised third-party analysis of quitting the Canada Pension Plan this fall.

Smith told her province-wide radio call-in show on Saturday that the report was ready in 2021 but wasn’t released due to COVID, and then when she became premier last year, she was told the numbers in it needed to be updated.

She says she’s been briefed on the report, and told her radio audience that Albertans have “massively” over-contributed to the CPP.

Alberta NDP House Leader Christina Gray responded yesterday that the report has been delayed so long and so often that there is no way Albertans can have trust in its findings.
