Lack of volunteers has Medicine Hat Stampede parade in jeopardy

May 18, 2023 | 4:32 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede is an event that has entertained the city for more than a century. The parade has been especially popular.

This year may be different. A lack of volunteers at the Stampede has the organization debating cancelling the parade. President Darlene Keeler says that the lack of volunteers is concerning.

“The parade desperately needs volunteers for that, otherwise we will not have a parade this year and the parade in Medicine Hat is a highlight of the Stampede,” Keeler says.

Keeler adds volunteers are needed for other events as well.

“Canada Day needs volunteers. Every committee that we have needs volunteers,” she says.

Keeler encourages anyone to help out, especially those who are younger and looking for new experiences. Roles will range from helping with the parade to the rodeo to the Country in the City exhibition.

Those who are interested in volunteering for the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede can find a form online or they can call their office at 403-527-1234. The Medicine Hat Stampede runs from July 26-29.
