Online reservations for city campgrounds delayed, now to open Feb. 6

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Campers will have to wait a little while longer to secure their spot at Medicine Hat campgrounds this year.

Online reservations for Gas City Campground and Echo Dale Campground were to open Monday morning, Jan. 16. On Sunday, the City of Medicine Hat said reservations will now open on Monday, Feb. 6 at 7 a.m.

“As our team was getting ready to launch the opening of the campground on the second weekend of January (as we have done for the last five years) our team discovered some glitches when testing the online campground registration system,” explains Scott Richter, manager of business and innovation for the city, in an email. “The delay allows the team to ensure that the online system is working and that there are no further (glitches, bugs, issues, system trouble) for Feb. 6 to ensure the public online experience continues to be positive.”

The season at both campgrounds will begin on Friday, April 28 and will close Monday, Oct. 9.

Echo Dale Campground offers 10 individual campsites located near a boating lake, fishing lake, and swimming area, says the City of Medicine Hat website. There is also a beach volleyball court, playground, and open space for baseball and soccer nearby.

“Both campgrounds have seen a lot of work over the last couple of years and we can’t wait for campers to see the improvements we’ve been able to make at both sites,” says Richter. “We opened up 10 campsites in Echo Dale Regional Park last year and saw how successful it was and we’re excited to build onto that this camping season by opening up one month earlier than last year.”

Gas City Campground offers 98 campsites and is located off the Trans-Canada Highway and Seventh Street SW. In 2022, two comfort cabins, each measuring 540 square feet and fully accessible, were added.

The province announced earlier this month that several Alberta Parks individual, group and comfort camping sites will re-open their bookings this month as well.
