New Innovation Centre opens in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A new Innovation Centre aimed at helping local businesses has opened in Medicine Hat.

The centre is still in its early stages but is ready for more small projects.

“We’re looking to the businesses and the industry in our region to find out what their needs are. That’s where we’re going to focus,” said Chelsey Ehresman, the Centre of Innovation’s manager.

The centre, located at the Medicine Hat College, is a facility that local businesses in south eastern Alberta can access to test and find new technologies. These technologies include anything from motion capturing with a green screen to finding biodiesel fuels.

The purpose of the centre is to allow small to medium businesses to test out a new technology before making the decision to buy it. Ehresman hopes this will help local businesses to grow.

“What are your problems right now, what do you need support in, the processes that need to be improved, what are the products that need to be improved. We’ll test and trial to see what works specifically for them,” said Ehresman.

Ehresman says that by the end of the project, businesses will be able to integrate these new technologies.

“I think it will have a huge benefit. I’m really excited about it. I hope it will help our businesses and industry in our region innovate for the future – really adding that capacity so they can grow as needed,” she said.
