Blackfoot Confederacy files human rights complaint Indigenous Services Canada
CALGARY – Representatives from three First Nations in southern Alberta have filed a human rights complaint against the federal government.
The three tribes, which are members of the Blackfoot Confederacy, are accusing Indigenous Services Canada of systemic discrimination against adults on the reserves who have developmental disabilities.
Siksika Councillor Tracy McHugh says federal supports are only available for children with disabilities on reserves until they turn 18.
She says after they turn 18, they must move off reserve in order to access Alberta government supports that can help them live on their own.
