Hill Road closed for July and August

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Hill Road will be closed for the summer as the City of Medicine Hat replaces water and sewer infrastructure on Sixth Street SE.

The work will start on July 4.

The city says that through July and August, drivers will not be able to access Hill Road from South Railway Street and will detour around the construction area from atop the Southeast Hill. Sidewalks along Hill Road will be closed to pedestrians due to the intersection closure at the top of the hill at Sixth Street and Fifth Avenue.

The trail connecting Hill Road and the lower portion of Sixth Street that connects to Kingsway Avenue will also be closed, but the remaining segments of the walking trail along the Southeast Hill will remain open. Refer to the map below for more information.

The Sixth Street project will replace aging infrastructure with upgraded components to maintain reliable water and sewer service for modern residential and business demands, the city says.

At the same time and to minimize future disruptions for area residents, geometric improvements to the intersection at Sixth Street and Fifth Avenue will be completed to improve traffic flow, along with new curb and gutter, sidewalks and asphalt.

Fencing will be placed around excavated areas for public safety, and people are asked to obey all signage and detours around the area.

The project is expected to be finished at the end of August, depending on weather and unforeseen circumstances.
