MEDICINE HAT, AB– The above zero temperatures will be coming to an end soon. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Medicine Hat and area.

Snow, strong winds, and a rapid drop in temperature are expected Monday night.

The national weather service says Strong northwest winds gusting up to 70 km/h will begin along the central Foothills Monday evening. The winds are expected to move to the southeast and they are expected to strengthen through the night.

Winds up to 90 km/h are likely over southeastern Alberta by midnight and are expected to ease by Tuesday morning.

Environment Canada says during the onset of the windy conditions, rain or snow is expected and they warn visibility may reduce to zero in the event of blowing snow.

They also say wet surfaces may freeze, and they are advising people to prepare for poor travel conditions.

Today, Environment Canada says Medicine Hat will reach a high of 6, and a low of zero overnight. On Monday, temperatures are expected to reach a high of seven before dropping down to a low of -13.
