MEDICINE HAT, AB – Struggles on the power play were quickly erased Tuesday night for the Medicine Hat Tigers, getting back into the win column in thrilling fashion.

Lukas Svejkovsky tore down the centre of the ice and scored 2:17 into overtime to give the Tigers a 5-4 victory in the extra frame over the visiting Swift Current Broncos.

It was a wild affair that saw the lead change hands four times over the course of the night, with the Tigers using the man advantage to power them to two needed points.

After going 0-for-9 last weekend on the power play and sitting dead last in the WHL in that category, Medicine Hat found the back of the net three times with the extra skater Tuesday.

It was the Broncos getting on the board first however, as Mathew Ward snuck in a buried a shot five-hole on Garin Bjorklund just over three minutes into the game.

That 1-0 score remained until the last few minutes of the opening frame, when centre Owen MacNeil netted his first goal as a member of the Tigers on the power play to knot up the contest at 1-1.

Medicine Hat’s prowess up a man continued early in the second, as defender Bogdans Hodass let a wrist shot go from the point that fooled Broncos netminder Reid Dyck to give the Tabbies their first lead of the game.

That was followed up by goals from Brady Birnie and Connor Hvidston however, putting Swift Current back in front.

On their third power play of the night, Medicine Hat converted again with Svejkovsky dishing it across to Corson Hopwo who let his much anticipated first goal of the season rip past Dyck to tie the game up at 3-3.

But the wild second period from Co-Op Place would draw to a close with the Broncos out in front, courtesy of a late marker from Rylan Gould for his first career WHL goal.

Medicine Hat was able to bury the 4-4 tying goal 8:24 into the third period, as Teague Patton converted on his first goal of the year to send it to overtime.

In OT, Hodass was able to set up Svejkovsky who skated back to centre ice and deked his way across the blueline before firing home his seventh of the year for the game winner.

Svejkovsky and Hodass each had a goal and three assists in the win, while Ward led the way offensively for Swift Current with a three point evening.

The 3-3-0-1 Tigers are back home on Friday night to face the visiting Prince Albert Raiders at 7:00 pm.
