Saskatchewan to send six COVID-19 patients to Ontario for intensive care

Oct 18, 2021 | 2:04 PM

REGINA – The Saskatchewan government says it is sending six COVID-19 intensive care patients to Ontario.

Premier Scott Moe and the Saskatchewan Health Authority confirmed the move this morning.

Scott Livingstone, the health authority’s CEO, says in a statement that he recognizes moving patients out of the province is stressful for the families involved.

He says the health authority will continue to try to provide care as close to home as possible, but adds that today’s decision is necessary to maintain quality of care for patients.

An internal email obtained by The Canadian Press says the Saskatchewan patients are to go to Ottawa General Hospital, North Bay Regional Health Centre, Oak Valley Health System, Mount Sinai Hospital and Kingston General Hospital.

Dr. Michael Warner, clinical director of critical care at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, says he received an email earlier today and notes the moves will happen between today and Wednesday.
