MEDICINE HAT, AB – A first year high school student will be the only Medicine Hat representative on this year’s Minister’s Youth Council.

Mikka Doll of Monsignor McCoy High School is one of 40 students across the province who meet with the Minister of Education, Adriana Lagrange, four times a year. She will be taking Medicine Hat’s perspective on education to the government and advocating for changes she and her peers want to see.

More than 350 students applied for the council and as one of the youngest members, she’s already making plans for changes she wants to see.

“One of the things I’d hope to change after COVID is how education is going to look,” Mikka said. “Being that we lived through a pandemic and we are almost there, hopefully, there’s obviously going to be changes within education and I want to make sure that it comes out through a positive aspect.”

She was able to find more value with her peers and teachers this last year while learning in cohorts.

Her first meeting is the third week of October.
