15 new cases in city, 407 in province

Growth rate of active cases slows in Medicine Hat, one new death

Medicine Hat has its smallest daily increase of new cases and active cases of COVID-19 in one week.

There are 495 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, an increase of just 12.

Medicine Hat has had 1,856 total cases – the 495 active, 1,337 recovered and there have been 24 deaths. That’s one new death today.

There are 15 new cases in the city in the past 24 hours and two new recoveries.

The city has the second-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 726.7. Banff is the highest at 944.2.

COVID-19 outbreaks are being found across the city, including at a popular nightclub, continuing care centres and the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday there are 12 COVID-19 patients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, with three of those in the ICU.

Earlier Tuesday the City of Medicine Hat announced a COVID campaign encouraging residents 20-40 years to get vaccinated.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 71.4 have received at least one dose of vaccine and 64.2 are fully vaccinated.

62 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 55.8 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 5,627 active cases in the province, up 273 from Monday, and 232,790 recovered cases in the province, up 131.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 240,753.

There are 407 new cases in the province in the past 24 hours and 618 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 176 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 44 of which are in ICU, and 2,336 deaths.

The province completed 5,475 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 7.4 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,451,895 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Province-wide, 76.9 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 68 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 65.4 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 57.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 810 active cases and 12,613 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 140.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 2-8 is 1.25. It is 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from July 19-25 the numbers were 1.48 province-wide, 1.50 in Calgary Zone, 1.37 in Edmonton Zone and 1.48 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 405 cases. There are 82 active cases, 322 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 52.9 per cent, the two-dose rate is 46.2. Cypress County has the third-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 725.8.

The County of Forty Mile has 161 total cases. There are three active cases, 155 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 31 per cent, the two-dose rate is 27.5.

The MD of Taber has 588 total cases — 13 active cases, 569 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 37.9 per cent, the two-dose rate is 33.8.

Special Areas No. 2 has 112 total cases – six active cases, 105 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,553 total cases — 14 active cases and 1,524 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 260 cases — eight active cases, 249 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51.8 per cent, the two-dose rate is 45. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 475 total cases. There are six active cases, 466 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 47.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 41.6.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 4,992 cases. There are 108 active cases, 4,844 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,293 cases, 21 active cases, 1,258 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 16, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 51,499 cases, 1,017 considered active. There are 49,896 recovered cases and there have been 586 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
