Electricity up, natural gas down for August

The price of electricity is going up this month and the price of natural gas is going down.

The August rates for City of Medicine Hat utility customers were posted by the city on Tuesday.

The natural gas rate has been set at $3.8910 per gigajoule, down from $3.9650 in July.

The fixed rate for 2021 is $3.50 per GJ.

Electricity customers will pay 12.111 cents per kilowatt-hour this month, up from 10.216 per kilowatt-hour in July.

The fixed rate offered by the city is 6.800 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The monthly rates are determined based on the average set by other providers in the province.

The natural gas price is in the middle of the $3.3280 set by Direct Energy and the $4.4500 set by Apex (formerly AltaGas).

The electricity price falls between the high of 12.002 cents set by Direct Energy and the 12.288 cents set by Epcor (Edmonton).
