Asking residents

Brooks seeks ideas for future of the Old Rodeo Grounds

BROOKS, AB – The City of Brooks wants to know what its residents would like to see developed at the Old Rodeo Grounds.

The city hoped to attract developers to submit proposals with the idea of a mixed-use site combining commercial and medium density residential development. No proposals met the criteria and so the city is expanding the options.

“After not receiving any proposals that met the criteria, Council directed us to get public input, so we could come up with development to serve the citizens of Brooks,” said Alicia Bartlette, City of Brooks manager of Planning and Engineering, in a release. “We believe residents will give us great feedback on what they want, which will allow us to deliver a remarkable area for our city.”

The city says the site is about 23.9 acres and is surrounded by the Brooks Golf Course to the north and east, while west of the site is industrial development. This area is also currently used as an off-leash dog park.

Officials say the area could fit a range of different uses, such as retail stores, different housing forms (from single detached houses to medium density apartment buildings), and recreation uses such as a park or walking trails.

A survey is available online and can also be picked up at Brooks City Hall. More information is available on the City of Brooks website.
