MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Public Library has been closed to the public since early April but staff are still being run off their feet.

Chief librarian Ken Feser says city book worms have made good use of the curbside pickup service during the latest closure.

The library and staff also had to bounce back from a COVID case in early May.

“We’re back to doing our regular pickup service if you call in or access us through the internet, through our catalogue on the web, you can set up appointments and come on in and do the curbside pickup it’s working as per usual,” said Feser.

He added staff are happy to get material out to Hatters and they’re usually booking pickups a few days ahead.

When the library can welcome the public back people will notice upgrades to the Kinsmen Children’s Library thanks to a donation from the group.

They recently turned over a cheque for $79,000, this after donating $80,000 last year for the space.

“We”re working on various things for that we’ve got some artwork that we received from a local artist struck,” Feser explained. “She’s redone our bug town which is very popular with people and some paintings and shadowboxes and things so we’re sort of putting that up in the library. We have some acoustic this hanging from the ceiling for looks and also to control noise in the space.”

Feser says new shelving and furniture are also planned for the space.

The elevator at the library is currently undergoing repairs and painting and flooring projects are in the planning stages.
