Downtown Days returning to Medicine Hat with two days of food, shopping and entertainment

Participation is voluntary, and organizers are encouraging visitors to check with individual businesses for hours and planned activities.

Several downtown streets will close at 6 p.m. on the Friday and remain closed throughout Saturday to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment.

Closures will include the 600 block of Second Street S.E. and the 400, 500 and 600 blocks of Third Street S.E.

Saturday’s activities will include the Food & Beverage Expo, sidewalk sales, a classic car show, a Kids’ Corner, cornhole games, live music and DJs, and beer gardens.

Live music featuring Snakes and the Riot is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Mike Reid, spokesperson for Medicine Hat Downtown Voice, said the event is an opportunity to showcase the downtown community.

“Downtown Days is a celebration of the vibrancy, energy and community spirit that make downtown Medicine Hat such a special place,” Reid said in a statement.

“When our streets are filled with people shopping, dining, enjoying live music and connecting with local businesses, it showcases the very best of our downtown,” he added.

“This event is an opportunity for residents and visitors to experience the unique character, hospitality and entrepreneurial spirit that make downtown the heart of our city.”

Several free parking options will be available during the event.

Visitors can access free two-hour parking on streets not affected by closures, including stalls along River Road S.E.

Free four-hour parking is available on Friday afternoon on the third level of the Transit Terminal.

After 6 p.m. Friday and throughout the day Saturday, parking will be free at all levels of the Transit Terminal, as well as the Town Square and Esplanade parking lots.

Free parking will also be available all day Saturday in the South Railway Street parking lot.

Medicine Hat Downtown Voice is a volunteer-led coalition of downtown business owners and operators focused on strengthening the area through collaboration, advocacy and community initiatives.
