DUNMORE, AB – The traffic lights at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Eagle Butte Road in Dunmore are fully operational ahead of the expected schedule.

Cypress County announced the completion of the long-sought traffic light installation Thursday afternoon.

“Cypress County Council, past and present, have been advocating for numerous years to reduce the risk at the Dunmore intersection.” said Reeve Dan Hamilton in a statement. “Alberta Transportation agreed in late 2018 to provide a solution for reducing the risk to users of the intersection, and further agreed to match the County’s financial contribution to complete the work. Many options were looked at, such as, the County proposed the extension of 3rd Ave to meet HWY 1 east of Dunmore, however Alberta Transportation made the decision that the intersection lights and adjustments alone, were the best course of action.

Additionally, a Stop sign was placed northbound on Eaglebutte Rd ahead of the intersection to ensure fair flow of traffic for vehicles accessing the intersection from 3rd Ave.

Council are very grateful that the work has been completed at last, and are pleased to announce that the lights were made operational this morning.”

In November of 2019, Cypress County Council approved a design to improve the intersection, which has been the scene of numerous serious crashes over the years. The work began in August of 2020.

Cypress County contributed $800,000 towards the $1.2 million cost of the project.
