Rates set

One utility rate down, one up for January

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The price of natural gas is down this month and the price of electricity is up for City of Medicine Hat utility customers.

The January rates were posted by the city Monday.

The natural gas rate for January has been set at $2.6230 per gigajoule, down from $2.7655 in December.

The fixed rate for 2021 is $3.50 per GJ.

Customers will pay 7.954 cents per kilowatt hour for electricity, up from 6.694 cents in December.

The monthly rates are determined based on the average set by other providers in the province.

The natural gas price is in the middle of the $2.4620 set by AltaGas and the $2.7840 set by Direct Energy.

The electricity price falls between the high of 8.117 cents set by Epcor (Edmonton) and the 7.696 cents set by Direct Energy.
