Increase in mail thefts in the area

REDCLIFF, AB – With an overload of mail leading up to Christmas packages are still being delivered this week, and still being stolen.

Cypress County posted on social media Wednesday that both RCMP and Medicine Hat police are seeing an increase in mail thefts over the past week.

Promptly picking up your mail, not leaving it overnight and having someone pick it up for you if you’re away are ways to prevent mail theft.

Sgt. Neil Bailey from Bow Island, filling in at the Redcliff detachment, has two other tips.

“Best thing is to never ever send cash,” says Bailey. “Other tips are if your mail is overdue and you know it’s been sent say a week or two ago and it should have been here, follow up with that, see where it is.”

Theft of property should be reported to police immediately, adds Bailey.

To report theft you can call Redcliff RCMP at 403-548-2222 or use the RCMP online reporting system. Canada Post should also be contacted at 1-800-267-1177.
