MEDICINE HAT, AB – A trial on simple assault charges against a Walsh gas station owner ended in a dismissal of the allegations while proceedings on more serious allegations were adjourned Monday morning at Medicine Hat Provincial Court.

Anwar Kamaran, 44, was charged in connection with an alleged assault which took place on Aug. 8 against Carol Shoesmith who runs a neighbouring gas station with her husband Geoff and son in the hamlet next to the Alberta and Saskatchewan boundary on the Trans-Canada.

Simple assault charges were dismissed at the beginning of Monday’s trial after the Crown did not call evidence in the matter.

Kamaran is also facing two charges of assault causing bodily harm after an attack on Geoff Shoesmith caught by a security camera and the couple’s son which took place shortly after the man was charged with simple assault for the other incident.

Those charges have been adjourned to Nov. 10 to set a trial date.

No plea has been entered on those charges as of yet.

The court heard Kamaran is hoping to alter release conditions which require him to maintain a primary residence outside of Walsh.

The Crown indicated they are not prepared to consent to such a change at this time.
