Meals on Wheels service continues with precautionary COVID-19 measures

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Meals on Wheels service in our city is continuing, but with a few extra precautions amid COVID-19.

That service delivers anywhere from 60-110 meals per day to local residents.

The city’s Manager of Community Connections and Support Aaron Nelson says this is a critical service in the community.

And they are being extra careful as seniors are some of the most vulnerable right now.

They are also minimizing human contact with clients and leaving meals at the door when possible.

Extra precautions are also being taken during the packaging phase.

“We asked our volunteers to step back because they use to deliver all the meals and staff has taken that over just so we can be very stringent with our safety protocols. As well, many of our volunteers are seniors so we want to ensure that they’re protected.”

Nelson says their clients understand and appreciate the safe delivery efforts
