City announces measures to help utility customers

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat has put measures in place that help customers who may struggle to pay utility bills in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Effective March 16:
- Disconnection warning letters and related $20.00 service fee will be deferred for 90 days
- Utility disconnections will be deferred for 90 days thereby eliminating the disconnection fee ($58.50) and reconnection fee ($58.50)
- Customer overdue reminder notices will replace the disconnection warning letters asking customers to contact Customer Service (403-529-8111) for special payment arrangements (no fee associated)
- Utility arrears transferred to property tax accounts (and $40.00 service fee) will be deferred for 90 days.
Recognizing ratepayers are likely to have questions customers are asked to email in order to reduce foot traffic in city hall.
