Over $40K raised for Saddledome employees; after Calgary Sports and Entertainment refuses to help
CALGARY, AB– $42,657 has been raised for part-time, hourly, and event staff after the Calgary Flames showed that they will not be assisting them during NHL’s suspension of the season.
The Flames sent an email to their hourly staff, and event staff when the NHL paused the season Thursday.
The league has agreed to suspend play to try and limit the spread of COVID-19, saying they will re-evaluate the situation in two-weeks. All events that were previously planned to be held at the Scotiabank Saddledome have been temporarily halted.
“It is troublesome to see these individuals left in the cold during these difficult times. Lots of teams and players in the NHL and other sports leagues have stepped up to take care of their staff and community. It’s the right thing to do. Arena employees are as much a part of our beloved Flames as the players themselves.” Wrote Go-Fund-me organizer, Raymond Lau.
