Province reviewing applications for family resource networks

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Ministry of Children’s Services has started reviewing proposals for family resource networks.

According to a news release from the province sent Tuesday afternoon, the government has received almost 400 proposals received from organizations across Alberta.

“The number and diversity of submissions we have received is a reflection of the enthusiasm and excitement we are seeing with the new model,” said Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Children’s Services, in a statement. “We are in a strong position to develop a network of high-quality services that make it easier and more efficient for Albertans to get the support they need.”

In November, the province confirmed to CHAT News it would be changing the way it administers prevention and early intervention services, such as Parent Link Centres. Organizations were asked to submit expression of interests for the new program.

The release says the proposals will be assessed based on organizational capacity, partnerships and collaboration, delivery plans, proposed budget and alignment to essential frameworks, such as the Well-being and Resiliency Framework. Following the assessment, a program development process will take place to determine how service delivery will work in each network area across Alberta.

Applicants will be notified if they’re successful in the middle of March before current grants end on March 31.

“As evaluation and negotiations progress, some communities may begin to see changes,” the statement reads. “However, the ministry will not negotiate in public. When networks are ready to launch in April, communities across Alberta will be informed through government announcements with successful grant recipients.”
