PRINCE ALBERT, SK – It took a shootout to decide it, but the Medicine Hat Tigers returned to the win column on Saturday night in Prince Albert.

Brett Kemp sniped the game-winner in the third round of a shootout in a 4-3 victory over the Raiders to snap a two-game losing skid.

Medicine Hat opened the scoring just 52 seconds into the weekend contest with Corson Hopwo netting his 11th of the season, however that was answered with a Matthew Culling goal two minutes later by Prince Albert.

The Raiders took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission thanks to an unassisted Landon Kosior goal on the power play with five and a half minutes left before the buzzer.

That remained the score for much of the second period as well, but Tigers defenceman Daniel Baker stepped with 2:37 left in the frame with his second point of the night from the point to tie the game at 2-2.

Nick McCarry gave Medicine Hat its first lead of the game 1:58 into the third period and looked to be the game-winning goal, that was until Raiders defender Kaiden Guhle netted the equalizer with 6:34 remaining in regulation to send the game to extra time.

After a scoreless overtime period, captain James Hamblin scored on the Tigers’ first shootout attempt to gain the early advantage.

Prince Albert’s Ozzy Wiesblatt kept his team alive with a timely goal on Mads Søgaard, but Kemp responded seconds later to put the game away for Medicine Hat.

Baker led the charge with one goal and one assist for the Tigers, following by a two-assist night from winger Cyle McNabb.

Søgaard earned his 15th victory of the season with 19 saves against the Raiders, while Max Paddock took the loss in the Prince Albert net with three goals allowed on 33 shots.

Saturday’s win keeps the Tigers locked in third place in the Central Division with a 30-14-1-1 record and 62 points, just three points back of the Lethbridge Hurricanes for second.

Medicine Hat returns home from their weekend swing in Saskatchewan on Tuesday night to kick off a home-and-home set with the Swift Current Broncos, puck drop from the Canalta Centre goes at 7:00 pm.
