United Way wrapping its way to a better Medicine Hat

Medicine Hat, AB – For those who aren’t adept at gift wrapping, the United Way’s holiday wrapping booth is more of a public service than a charity drive.

For Medicine Hat’s United Way executive director, the initiative is one of the agencies biggest funding drives of the year which in turn provides financial assistance to a number of family support services across the region.

“It’s a great way to donate,” said Missy Fandrick at the wrapping booth located at the Medicine Hat Mall.

One of the things which makes the fundraiser so successful, according to Fandrick, is the volunteer list is fully booked for those looking to wrap the 10,000 presents or more which cross the booth’s counter.

“I enjoy it,” said Fandrick. “I enjoy meeting all the different service groups in Medicine Hat, all the businesses, the volunteers, the people who come in and out and the people who are generally surprised Christmas is coming again this year.”

One of the things which makes the event successful is the consistency over the years of the number of those who utilize the service, no matter what the economy may be going through, said Fandrick.

Fandrick and her army of gift wrappers will be working the gift wrapping booth located near the Shopper’s Drug Mart at the Medicine Hat Mall right up to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
