CALGARY- Agrium has been fined nearly $30,000 for failing to report an ammonia release from a facility southeast of Calgary.
Alberta Environment says the release occurred at Agrium’s Carseland Nitrogen Operations on January 30, 2017 but was not reported until the end of the following month.
The Calgary-based company pleaded guilty to one count failing to report the release of anhydrous ammonia after a pressure release valve was jarred open.
Agrium was penalized for breaking Alberta’s Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act.
