CALGARY, AB – While her athletic prowess may be more well known on the volleyball court, Grace Porter showed she knows her way around a soccer pitch on Friday.

Porter netted a hat-trick for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s soccer team in Calgary in a 5-0 win over Ambrose University, one of two wins on the night for the visiting Rattlers.

Medicine Hat’s Maisa Rebello broke open the game in the 29th minute, as the Brazilian rookie scored her first goal of the season to give the Rattlers a 1-0 lead on the shorthanded Lions club.

That one-goal lead carried over to the second half, where Porter began her big night starting in the 60th minute.

The Rattlers women’s volleyball veteran was able to stake MHC to a 2-0 lead, before adding her second of the night in the 72nd minute.

Defender Kaylei Hole made it a 4-0 game in the 84th minute with her first goal of the year, which was followed up five minutes later by Porter’s hat-trick marker to put a ribbon on Medicine Hat’s second win of the season.

It was a quiet night for goalkeeper Dakota Adby, who stopped all three shots she faced to earn her second clean sheet of the season.

Moving to a mark of 2-1-0 on the season, the upstart Rattlers women’s soccer team has moved into third place in their division with six points.

Familiar leaders

Just as they dominated the week before, the Rattlers men’s soccer team kept their undefeated record alive thanks to the heroics of Abdou Raouf Mohamed and Colton Pacheco.

The pair each scored goals in the second half for Medicine Hat College in a 2-0 shutout victory in the late game against the Lions.

A physical first half saw both sides combine for 10 fouls in the opening 45 minutes, with Lions forward Amiel Cabayao receiving an ejection after picking up two yellow cards.

The Rattlers exploded for 14 shots in the second half, with Mohamed finally solving Ambrose goalkeeper Matthew Stacey in the 70th minute for his sixth goal in two games.

Pacheco added an insurance goal in stoppage time for the Rattlers, his fifth goal in his last two matches, to guarantee MHC’s second win of the season.

Like his female counterpart in Adby, Rattlers men’s team goalie Joao Vitor Duz Batista had a quiet evening and only had to make two saves to earn the clean sheet.

Still without a loss with a 2-0-1 record, the Rattlers sit tied for first place in the ACAC South Division with the Red Deer College Kings.

Rattlers soccer teams close out the weekend with a pair of exhibition games at home on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers out of Winnipeg with games at 12:00 and 2:00 pm.
