MEDICINE HAT, AB – A year of change on the bench continues for the Medicine Hat Cubs, adding two new faces as assistant coaches ahead of the pre-season.

Joining the black and orange this year are a pair of local products, with Kit Clark and Dylan Gejdos set to make their junior coaching debuts with the Cubs.

The 25-year-old Gejdos comes to the organization after four seasons on the ice at Minot State University following a successful junior ‘A’ career in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Gejdos, a Medicine Hat native, played his minor hockey in the ‘Gas City’ as recently as the 2011-12 season with the Medicine Hat Midget AA Venom.

As for Clark, he also takes on an assistant coaching role after years in the local minor hockey system.

“Pretty excited about it,” said Clark. “Good bunch of kids, good bunch of coaches, great organization. So, I’m happy to be here.”

Clark made his debut coaching the Cubs over the weekend with the team’s annual training camp, running drills alongside co-head coaches J.D. Gaetan and Steve Leipert.

Set to join the longtime Cubs coaches, Clark said he’s ready to learn the ropes at the junior stage.

“It’s intriguing to coach that next level and be able to work with some guys like J.D. and Steve,” said Clark. “That’s my big thing, I want to learn from them and do what I can to support them.”

Also raised in Medicine Hat, Clark began coaching following his playing days and eventually moved to Drumheller where he refined his craft with the clipboard.

After the better part of the decade, he moved back to Medicine Hat and has been instructing in the local minor hockey system including a stint with the Midget AA squad.

As for what he expects to bring to the Cubs organization, Clark said he’s all about the rough and tumble areas of the ice.

“More of the down low play, the board play, just controlling the puck,” he said.

Clark got his first glimpse of the players he’ll be coaching over the weekend and was impressed with what he saw, especially with the returning crop of veterans from last year’s squad that fell in Game 7 overtime to Coaldale in the second round of playoffs.

“They got a lot of speed,” said Clark. “We’re going to definitely put a lot of pucks in the net I think. Our goaltending, we’ve got a lot of options. So, I really think we’re going to have a very strong team and the defence looked very solid too.”

The Cubs will play their only two games of the HJHL pre-season this upcoming weekend, visiting Coaldale on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
