Canadian government invests $4.2 million into Southern Alberta’s rail infrastructure
Medicine Hat, AB – The federal government has made a significant infrastructure investment in Southern Alberta.
Minister of Natural Resources Canada announced the federal government will invest $4.2 million to upgrade Forty Mile Rail’s Transload Facility in Foremost. The money will also improve the Cardston Subdivision line.
This will help better the transport of Canadian goods into international markets. The existing infrastructure restricts the number of cars that can be moved on the line to 25 cars at a time, reducing the capacity and efficiency of the line.
Improvements will boost the line’s annual number of agricultural carloads for export, from 263 in 2018, to 4000 a year in the short-term and 15,000 in the long-term, according to the federal government.
