Dawgs top Mavericks 9-8 in marathon 17 inning contest

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Mavericks and the Okotoks Dawgs almost completed two full games Thursday evening.

With the game in the 17th inning, Liam Rihela was walked, allowing Jacob Melton to score, giving the Dawgs a 9-8 victory at 1:51 a.m. at Athletic Park.

Jaxon Valke batted in two runs for the Dawgs during the game.

Collin Klingersmith of the Mavericks finished the game with three hits.

Eight pitchers on both teams saw action during the game.

Shay Shanaman of the Dawgs was credited with the win. He pitched two full innings, striking out three batters, but allowing two hits, one run and one error.

Hunter Cooper of the Mavericks was credited with the loss on the mound. He pitched three full innings, striking out two batters, but allow four hits, two runs and five walks.

The Mavericks are back in action tonight, hosting the Moose Jaw Miller Express at Athletic Park. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.
