MEDICINE HAT, AB – Racing returned to the Medicine Hat Speedway over the weekend, with an annual celebration recognizing former driver Darryl Adams.

The Darryl Adams Memorial Weekend has been held for nearly a decade at the track, celebrating the life of Adams and his impact on the Medicine Hat Speedway.

Every year, the driver with the most points accumulated over two days of racing is awarded the Darryl Adams Memorial Trophy, which was given to baby grands driver Dale Edwards, who won both days of racing in his division.

In the elite street stocks grouping, Alf Hieb worked his way through a number of lead changes and yellow caution flags en-route to a win on Sunday.

Hieb said he took a quick opportunity to jump into first place in the final few laps of the race.

“I was able to see things happening fast,” said Hieb. “I had one opportunity, one hole to go through, and I drove through it.”

Mitch Stovke in the #66 car took second place in elite streets, while third was awarded to Shawn Lowe.

Jareme Koska bounced back from a third place finish in hobby stocks on Saturday with a first place showing on Sunday, he was followed by Trevor Stratton and Jason Koska.

In the cup car class, Kaylee Wilkie took the checkered flag on both nights of racing, while Emma Fitzpatrick and Owen Harbour finished second and third, respectively.

And as previously mentioned, Edwards was the two-time winner this weekend in the baby grands division, while Rick Jondreau and Robyn Abel were the runners-up.

Hieb said the weekend was another great showing in memory of Adams, who did a lot for the Medicine Hat racers and facility.

“He was a very involved racer,” he said. “He was here all the time when he was racing, when he was able to race. He had a lot to do with this track, and also a lot to do with the dirt track that was previous to this.”

The final August races at the Medicine Hat Speedway go on Saturday, with the elite street stock, hobby stock, legends, and renegade truck classes all hitting the track.
