MEDICINE HAT, AB — Some staff at the Medicine Hat Lodge got notice they were being laid off on Wednesday.

Stagewest Hospitality and Mayfield Investments Ltd. is the parent company of the Lodge.

It said the move was in an effort to centralize the accounting departments for all their properties. The centralization was in the works for the past year according to the company.

In a statement to CHAT News, it said the decision was a “difficult” one and it has “had an impact on three excellent employees from our Medicine Hat Lodge location.”.

Company president Jason Pechet said the decision to let go of accounting staff on a local level was to improve financial reporting and controls by centralizing the accounting operations.

“To improve efficiencies of the accounting systems throughout Stagewest Hospitality and Mayfield Investments Ltd, it has been decided to move most of the accounting functions to head office in Calgary,” he said in the statement.“This will affect not only our major properties of Medicine Hat Lodge and Camrose Resort but also our smaller properties.”

The company added it doesn’t foresee any other downsizing in staff at the Medicine Hat Lodge.
