Section of Highway 3 twinning project between Grassy Lake and Burdett opens Monday

Oct 26, 2026 | 10:31 AM

The section of the Highway 3 twinning project between Grassy Lake and Burdett is set to open to traffic Monday, Oct. 26, marking the transition to the new permanent four-lane highway.

The transition moves motorists from the temporary construction routes to the new Highway 3 alignment, which bypasses Grassy Lake.

As part of the change, the Grassy Lake detour will be removed, and traffic will move to the permanent roadway configuration.

Drivers are being advised to watch for temporary traffic controls, changing lane configurations, updated stop signs and intersection layouts as the transition takes place.

Minor delays are also possible while crews complete the work.

Construction crews will continue cleanup following the opening by removing temporary pavement markings and dismantling detour infrastructure.

Temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits may remain in place during this work.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution and follow posted signs as the Highway 3 corridor moves into its permanent configuration.

The Highway 3 twinning project between Taber and Burdett shifted traffic onto the new stretch of highway between Taber and Grassy Lake on Saturday.
