Wicked weather stole the spotlight at the ACAC Cross Country 4 — The Concordia Open in Edmonton on Saturday, with powerful wind gusts toppling trees and destroying the finish-line setup during the men’s race.

Wind gusts estimated near 100 kilometres per hour hit midway through the men’s eight-kilometre event, bringing down several large trees and tearing apart the finish-line area.

The Rattlers men finished tied for fifth in a tightly contested team standings, just one point behind fourth place.

Red Deer Polytechnic continued its strong season, capturing the men’s team title.

With three of their top four runners unavailable, the Rattlers women leaned on their depth to produce a fourth-place team finish among 12 ACAC schools.

Meghan Reefhuis led Medicine Hat College, placing 10th in 26:58.

Presley Brennan finished 20th, while Hannah Ulm was listed 27th and Sarah Laturnas 28th.
