The Medicine Hat Dynamic Industrial Cubs have won five straight games.

Two weekend road wins have the Cubs in first place in the Heritage Junior Hockey League‘s Gary Wournell South Division.

On Saturday, the Cubs faced the expansion Rimbey Royals in a first-ever meeting.

The Royals held the Cubs off the scoresheet until late in the first period.

Nolen Sutherland found the back of the net with a minute and eight seconds left in the first.

The second period included a flurry of five Cubs goals.

First, Josiah Jackson scored, then Kade Dickie, followed by a power-play goal from Brennan Finke.

Finke would score two more to complete a natural hat trick in five minutes and forty seconds.

Leading 6-0 going into the third period, the Cubs took a 7-0 lead on a Cole Fisher goal 7:05 into the final frame.

Zander Morrill would reply at the 9:21 mark to get the Royals on the board.

Later, Sutherland would get his second of the game, and then Colby Gulliver would wrap up the scoring to make it 9-1 Cubs.

Cubs goaltender Hudson Corbett stopped 15 of 16 shots, while Royals goaltender Valentino Elias Harson stopped 54 of 63 shots faced.

On Sunday, the Cubs faced a familiar face in former goaltender Marlo DeRosa, now part of the Sylvan Lake Wranglers.

The Wranglers, on home ice, got on the board first just three minutes and 49 seconds in.

Cooper Lawrence scored on Cubs goaltender Kayden Van Ham to give the Wranglers a 1-0 lead.

The Cubs evened things up later in the period on the power play when Jackson scored his first of three in the contest.

The Wranglers regained the 2-1 lead in the second on a Cody Wells goal.

Jacob Hazzard tied it back up at two for the Cubs with a short-handed goal at the 17:06 mark.

The Wranglers would regain the lead a minute and 43 seconds later on an Ayren Henry goal.

Down 3-2 heading into the third period, the Cubs would dominate the period.

Jackson scored another power play goal to tie the game at three at the 2:24 mark.

That lead lasted two minutes and 27 seconds before Lawrence got his second of the game for the Wranglers to regain a 4-3 lead.

Finke tied things back up for the Cubs at four, a minute and 21 seconds later.

Hazzard later scored his second of the game, and the eventual game-winner to put the Cubs up 5-4.

Jackson then scored again on the power play for an insurance marker. This would finish the scoring at 6-4 for the Cubs.

In net for the Cubs, Van Ham stopped 19 of 23 shots.

Wranglers’ goaltender DeRosa had a busy night facing 55 shots and stopping 49 against his former team.

The Cubs will take their six-win, one-loss record into Okotoks on Saturday to play the Bisons.

They return to the Kinplex on Sunday at 3 p.m. for a game against the Cannex Cochrane Generals.
