🏇 20 Mile Post Days and Irvine Rodeo

FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY, and MONDAY

The 40th annual 20 Mile Post Irvine Rodeo takes over the town this weekend, with a full day of rodeo action on Sunday.

Slack performances start at 8:30 a.m., including team roping, before the main rodeo gets underway at 1:30 p.m.

The rodeo is part of 20 Mile Post Days, which also features antique tractor pulls Friday and Saturday, a parade and chilli cook-off Saturday, and a gymkhana Monday.

The anniversary also marks four decades of volunteer work from organizers, including Larry, who has been involved with the rodeo since its beginning.

The event is supported by local businesses, ranches, families and community sponsors, which organizers say are essential to keeping the small-town rodeo tradition alive.

Admission on Sunday is $10 for adults, five dollars for children ages six to 12, and free for kids six and under, with the beer gardens opening at noon.

🎬 Movies at Monarch Theatre

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

Three family-friendly films are screening at the Monarch Theatre this weekend, starting with School of Rock on Friday.

The 2003 comedy starring Jack Black follows a failed rock musician who poses as a substitute teacher and turns his class into a rock band.

The Breakfast Club plays Saturday night, followed by Diary of a Wimpy Kid Sunday afternoon.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the Friday and Saturday shows, with movies starting at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday’s screening starts at 3 p.m., with doors opening at 2 p.m.

Admission is five dollars cash at the door.

🐅 Medicine Hat Tigers

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers host the Lethbridge Hurricanes in their second preseason game on Saturday at Co-op Place.

The Tigers opened the preseason with a 5-3 win in Lethbridge, highlighted by all three Ruck brothers finding the scoresheet while playing together for the first time.

Puck drop will take place at 7 p.m.

Play-by-play coverage will return when the regular season gets underway on Friday, Sept. 18 against the Hurricanes.

🏐 Sepak Takraw (Kick-Volleyball) at Big Marble Go Centre

SATURDAY

Medicine Hat is set to host a national Sepak Takraw championship for the first time this weekend.

The 2026 Canadian Open takes place on Saturday at the Big Marble Go Centre, with eight teams competing in 31 matches.

Two Medicine Hat teams will take on competitors from Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.

Sepak Takraw, commonly referred to as kick-volleyball, has players using their feet, legs and heads to send a hand-woven ball over the net.

The tournament runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free admission and donations accepted.

🏁 Medicine Hat Speedway

SATURDAY

Racing returns Saturday at the Medicine Hat Speedway, with V6, Hobby and Street Stock classes taking to the track, along with the Baby Grands.

Gates open at 5 p.m., and racing gets underway at 6 p.m.

Fans can expect a full night of local stock car action across four classes, with drivers competing for position and looking to finish the night on top.

🏞 Nature Adventure Read-Along at Police Point Park

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is inviting families to explore Police Point Park through stories and nature this weekend.

Interpreters are hosting a free Nature Adventure Read-Along on Sunday, designed for children aged four to seven.

The outdoor program will combine reading with an exploration of the natural world, taking in the park’s trees, prairie and river surroundings.

Books will be provided, and families are encouraged to bring good walking shoes for the outdoor adventure.

The program runs from 1 to 2 p.m., starting at the Nature Centre.

No registration is required.
