Sep 1, 2026 | 1:51 PM

The Medicine Hat Cubs will look to defend their first Heritage Junior Hockey League title during the 2026-2027 season.

It all begins on Friday, Sept. 25, when they host the High River Flyers for the regular-season opener at the Kinplex Arena. Opening weekend continues with a game against the Mountainview Colts on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Friday and Saturday home games throughout the regular season will start at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday home games will begin at 3 p.m.

The Cubs will also look to improve on their 2026 Silver Medal at Alberta Provincials. They will have to earn their spot again, but a familiar opponent would be waiting.

The HJHL hosts the 2027 Alberta Jr. B Provincials in Didsbury from April 7-11, 2027, with the Mountainview Colts as the host team.

A Halloween weekend game will be played against the Carstar Okotoks Bisons on Friday, Oct. 30.

New to the HJHL is the Rimbey Royals; they will make a stop in Medicine Hat on Sunday, Nov. 29.

Rimbey has been without a Jr. B team since 2011, when the Rock folded.

Not back in the HJHL in 2025-26 is the Ponoka Stampeders, a team that had won a total of three games in the previous three seasons, once per year.

The annual Christmas Game will be against Strathmore’s Agri Risk Wheatland Kings on Friday, Dec. 18.

The Red Deer Vipers, who the Cubs swept in the HJHL Finals, make their only regular-season appearance in Medicine Hat on Sunday, Jan. 17.

The 36-game regular season will wrap up for the Cubs on Saturday, Feb. 13, in Didsbury.

Before the season gets underway, training camp is from Friday, Sept. 4, to Sunday, Sept. 6, at the Big Marble Go Centre.

The Cubs will then play four exhibition games as they finalize their roster.

First on the road in Coaldale against the Copperheads on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m., then they will host the Copperheads back in Medicine Hat at the Moose Rec Centre on Sunday, Sept. 13.

The following weekend, on Saturday, Sept. 19, the Cubs travel to Strathmore to take on the Kings at 7:45 p.m., then welcome the Kings to the Kinplex on Sunday, Sept 20, at 3 p.m.
